The machine shown in this picture is called an Optical Coherence Topographer (OCT for short). The OCT takes a very quick scan of the structures on the inside of your eyes, specifically, the retina. The retina is the part of the eyes that collect light waves from what we see. If our retina doesn't work well anymore, we lose our vision and the world goes dark. If the retina becomes damaged, it never regenerates. Vision is lost permanently. The OCT scans provide Dr Jorgensen with a detailed analysis of your retina and can detect very early eye diseases that can have a devastating effect on your vision. Retina Specialists use this to monitor their patients who have Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and a variety of very serious retina conditions. Dr Jorgensen strongly believes every patient should have this done to ensure your retina is working perfectly. There is no bright flash, no pain, no discomfort and results are provided right away and Dr Jorgensen will explain the findings right in the exam lane with you. It is very easy and quick but provides a remarkably detailed look at your retina. For a nominal fee of $49*, you can assure you and your family are receiving the most advanced look into your eyes. Please let the receptionist or Dr Jorgensen know you want this done with your exam.
